Philippians 4:6

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Background: Throughout the Roman empire, there were cities in which there was a contingent of Roman soldiers. Philippi, to whom the letter was written, was such a Roman colony, a center of representative strength of the Roman government. It was to that people that the Apostle Paul uses a term they would more understand than many other communities would. When he uses the term “keep” or “guard” it is the same expression used of the soldiers who, like sentinels or sentries, would go marching about that city, preserving its boundaries, its defenses. It was the first place that would be attacked by an enemy that wanted to lay hold of that territory, but it was the last place that could be successfully overtaken because of the strength of its fortressing.

Who wrote Philippians?

Philippians 4:6-7 says 1) we are not to worry but to 2) make our request known to God 3) with thanksgiving, and that 4) God’s peace will march about our request like a sentry.

The teaching of Scripture is that when we pray, we can be secure in that place of peace, like the citizens of Philippi who could look out at their city and see the soldiers guarding it. We don’t have to get up from praying and then spend the day wondering if God heard us or will answer our prayer. Supplication is the prayer that moves in the confidence of that peace.

The word supplication is directly related to the simple verb for “to bind” (Matthew 18:18). Wherever you encounter the term “supplication,” it is presenting to us that kind of prayer where we come to the Lord and move into the dimension of controlling by the power of God that which is uncontrollable by human power.

This scripture reminds me to pray about everything. Nothing is to big or small for you to pray about. By seeking God’s face daily it gives me strength and stability. I feel like I’m making a sound decision when  I have sought the Lord before acting or responding to anyone or any situation.

Friendship Friday

John 15:12-15 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.

This is one of my favorite scriptures! To know that you are a friend of a higher power greater than any man or woman on the face of this earth is Awesome. Friendship comes when you develop a relationship with God. Getting to know God and His thoughts towards us, the plans that He has for us, and the place that He has already prepared for us it’s mind blowing. I don’t know of a friend that would lay down their life for me or have my best interest at heart at All times.

A piece of Peace Thursday

Philippians 4:6-7

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

This scripture reminds me of a time when I “couldn’t” wait to give birth to my son. I was a few days pass my due date and I asked to be induced so I could see my baby at a scheduled date and time. I was induced and spent two days in labor which ended in a cesarean. I was uncertain at the time why this happened to me, but I learned how to be patient. Now when obstacles occur I have His peace which guides and directs me.

Christ is always there to give us strength to attain all we need in righteousness.there is no need to go an extra mile in doing evil because to be successful ,lets just go to Jesus, the Champion of peace. Literally, it means when taken I can become like him in all essence and being one with him capable of what he is capable of, sharing his abilities and his power to create unlimited worlds and life of lives, miracle of miracles, greater works shall you do, He (GOD) states in the Bible.
